Written by a housewife from New Jersey and sounds like it! This is one

NPR just played a story on Tony Campolo, an Evangelical pastor. I really liked him - his views were actually thought out and valid rather than what I’m used to hearing from the Evangelical crowd. He even claims to have a wife that goes to an Evangelical church that supports gay marriage. I didn’t think these people existed! I love his views on abortion and gay marriage. He seems to support financial aid to curtail abortion, which is a very realistic point of view. Most of his fellow believers want to outlaw abortion outright, which will work just as well as prohibition did.
He states that the average woman receiving an abortion is lower to lower-middle class, and that usually their concern over cost of raising a child is that main incentive for aborting. This is a very good point.
When asked about gay marriage, he says that the government shouldn’t have any involvement in marriage itself at all, but rather grant all couples civil union and leave actual marriage up to the churches. This is a great idea - one I have never heard brought up before, and it would greatly benefit many couples, gay and straight.

I just hope that more people in the Evangelical community and especially in the Religious Right start absorbing this kind of attitude. Many of them are doing exactly what their religious leaders tell them to do, and not thinking for themselves. I’m glad at least a few can break from the herd and point out what’s wrong.
Check out his sermon podcast. I just may later tomorrow.

Well, he’s done it again. More than 60% of voters in the ABC News poll believe that Ron Paul won the debate again. He also lost over 1000 votes when ABC reset its polls.
Here are the rankings as of 7AM EDT Aug. 6th:

They should fix this. It’s been there since 1954. It bothers me.

As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion…
This is my new favorite statement from the founding fathers. It’s the first line of Article 11 of the US Treaty with Tripoli, written in 1796, and signed by John Adams, the second president of these united States of America.
So, the next time I hear someone spouting “this nation was founded on Christian values,” I’ll have this shoe of a citation to shove in their mouth.

Apparently, according to the bible, it’s useless for me to become a Christian, so stop trying to convert me:
Revelations
14:3 And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.
14:4 These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.
